History
The Independent Living Association (ILA) is a local user-led charity providing a wide range of support for people with care needs or caring responsibilities.
We are run by the users of our services, headed by a board of trustees who are local people directly answerable to all the other members. Our constitution requires that most trustees and members are disabled people or carers.
We believe that our core work, helping people to organise and run their own care arrangements under local authority self-directed support schemes, should be directed by the people who know best what's needed - our members and customers.
The trustees of the ILA are delighted to announce the appointment of Philippa Thompson as our new chief executive.
Philippa Thompson joins us after four years as director of ICAS (Independent Complaints Advocacy Service) for the south of England. She brings a wealth of experience in the fields of health and social care charity management.
Her previous positions have included directing development at a national children's charity and heading consumer affairs at BT. Her professional qualifications include an MBA and a BA(Hons) law degree. She is an associate member of the Association of Chief Executives of Voluntary Organisations and a fellow of the Royal Society of Arts.
We are thrilled to have appointed such an experienced and professional chief executive as Philippa.
Organisations like the ILA need to become ever more efficient and forward-thinking as well as providing top-quality services.
We look forward to building on our strengths and shaping up for exciting further developments with an inspirational new chief executive to lead our top-quality team.

“Lots of people don't always know what help is available, for me ILA has meant I can live in my own home.”
D.Hammond, W.Sussex.
