There are a wide variety of care training opportunities available from a number of local providers covering all the main subject areas.
There is also a new online PA induction training package which was designed by Sussex Skills for Care specifically for Personal Assistants. This is free for all to use and can be accessed via the link at the bottom of the page.
What kinds of care training are available?
Care training can be split into four main categories:
How can I access training?

An excellent source of information is the information service ICIS whose database lists a large number of training providers. The Care Training Consortium (CTC) website also has links to local training providers. You need to register to access the list of providers and this is quite straightforward. Note: the free courses run by the CTC are not available for PAs.
A local provider who offer competitively priced training is Northbrook College who have courses in most of the main subject areas. You would need to call them to find out more on 01903 606114.
There are many other providers, too many to list, many of whom can be found via the websites listed above or via the usual internet search engines.
Four “Supporting Me” guides are available which are aimed at helping Personal Assistants to better understand the needs of those who they support. They include:
These were developed by Sussex Skills for Care, and are free for all to use. The ILA has copies of the first 3 guides so please get in touch if you would like us to send you copies by post.
Alternatively all the guides can be downloaded from the Skills for Care Southeast website.

Many thanks to all those who took the time to respond to our PA training questionnaires. As we become aware of additional training opportunities, we shall add further information to this page.

The ILA publishes a dedicated PA supplement alongside its quarterly newsletter :
PA Perspective
This is the first time the ILA has published a dedicated PA supplement alongside its quarterly newsletter. The idea is to cover topics specific to PAs and to bring a particular PA perspective to some of the items in the main newsletter.
